What shape does silence take?

In music, we know that silence is given form by rests: quarter rests, eighth rests, half rests, whole rests. Each is a precisely shaped symbol, placed in a specific position on the musical staff.

But what about the visual arts?

What shape does silence take in visual art?

More precisely, what visual element gives silence its form?

“La forma del silenzio” sets out to answer this question by exploring masterpieces of painting from the past, as well as more recent works, alongside fragments of poetry and live performances by accomplished musicians.

The journey will be led by Francesca Cavallin, a professional actress with a background in art history. Through a series of projected images, she will take us on a journey through images and sounds, words and silences.

Because in the visual arts, just as in music, silence is part of the artwork.

Indeed, in some cases, silence itself becomes the protagonist.
