Ok, let’s be frank, I don’t really know what the difference is between a compressor and an eq plugin. I guess it depends on the person who is asking the question. For me personally, a compressor is more like a really squashed and distorted version of a track, so you would be treating it like a distortion effect, but you’d then have this way of squashing and compressing the output so that it sounds like it is a bit more “clean” or “natural”, if you will.
EQ is, to me, a term that isn’t really explained that much in DJ software, but a compressor, as I see it, is a way of compensating for how the signal is being distorted (and thus modified), but they are also used to help with specific frequency sounds, so it really depends on the tone of the user.

The reason why I see this way is because I used to have an early version of FL Studio and all of the time that I had on my hands was ear-drum pounding to work on this software. I would compress, eq, compressor, compress, eq, compressor, eq, compressor, compress…and that is why I am such a noob.

I hear a compressor and I think of a really bad compressor that squashes and distorts everything. Same goes for eq. I hear an eq and think of really cheap sounding preamps that just make me want to go to Best Buy to get a new one.

That being said, to me, it seems like a compressor is something that does the same thing as eq but takes it to the next level.

1) More of a compressor will distort your audio more. 2) More of an eq will make specific frequencies stand out more than others.

If you’re looking to push that extra level of distortion that an eq would do, you’d be best off using an eq plugin. If you’re looking to push that extra level of clarity and compression that an eq would do, you’d be best off using a compressor plugin.

How does it work?

This piece of software is the result of a college project, and I had a lot of fun making it.
In version 1, it allowed you to display 1 waveform at a time, but the sound quality was very poor. That’s because it was based on the TidalWave algorithm, which is known for its simplicity and quality. However, I came up with a new algorithm to generate waveforms, which is better at depicting the details of the input sound. Thus, you can expect much better sound in version 2.
Version 2 is still based on the TidalWave algorithm, and it is very similar to the previous version in the way that you can choose a sample and set the waves to be displayed on screen, or have them all, automatically, display at once (OBSOLETE), or none at all (OFF). Also, you can select a single waveform (ORIGINAL), or all the ones at once (MULTI) or none at all (OFF).
There’s also a second screen where you can control the volume, the panning, and a few other parameters.
